Dr. Rick Monture, Professor at McMaster University, member of the Mohawk nation and Turtle Clan, explores the legacy of influential Mohawk military and political leader Joseph Brant (Thayendanegea). Monture provides historical insight into Brant’s contributions to shaping Indigenous-settler relations, military campaigns, water rights and the founding of the Six Nations of the Grand River.Dr. Monture examines the unique role Brant played in Indigenous history and the impact he left on the region and beyond. If available, Lindyn Hill, a Research Fellow will speak about resources being developed on Haudenosaunee teachings of water and a digital story on the history of the Grand River and Six Nations.
