2024 marks the 100th anniversary of Rhapsody in Blue, the first composition to successfully combine classical music and jazz. It was written by George Gershwin, one of the great composers and songwriters of the twentieth century.
This Gershwin Celebration features Burlington-born soprano Adrianne Pieczonka, making her crossover debut after a distinguished thirty-five-year career on the major international opera stages, who will sing songs from the great Broadway shows like Girl Crazy.
Daniel Vnukowski, the acclaimed concert pianist and popular Host on Classical 96 FM, will perform the Rhapsody as well as other Gershwin works for piano.
Soprano Jonelle Sills and baritone Justin Welsh, two of Canada’s fastest rising opera singers, will perform selections from Porgy and Bess, arguably the greatest American Opera. They and Ms. Pieczonka will be accompanied by the accomplished collaborative pianist Stephane Mayer.
A joyous centenary celebration of master musician! Who could ask for anything more?!
