The Burlington Waterfront Sculpture Trail (BWST) is a temporary public art installation running from April 21 - June 2. BWST creates a kilometer long experience linking the Art Gallery of Burlington, Spencer Smith Park, Joseph Brant Museum and the Downtown Burlington BIA through a series of 30 temporary sculptures created by local and regional artists. The trail is a fully accessible experience and free for all to engage in.
The project encourages residents and visitors to explore downtown Burlington businesses, allows residents and visitors to experience art in a safe outdoor venue and connects to International Sculpture Day by providing a free cultural experience. Further, BWST supports local and regional artists by providing paid commissions and promotional support.
An opening ceremony will take place at the Art Gallery of Burlington (AGB) on April 26 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event will include brief remarks at the AGB followed by a walking tour of the Burlington Waterfront Sculpture Trail and ending with a reception back at the AGB. The project has been created by the Dan Lawrie International Sculpture Collection (DLISC). Founded by Burlington resident Dan Lawrie, DLISC has commissioned a series of large-scale sculptures at the Royal Botanical Gardens and financially contributed to two public art commissions through the City of Burlington public art program.
The following local and regional artists will be featured in the 2023 Burlington Waterfront Sculpture Trail: Martina Skuce, Angela Aujla, Tamara Kwapich, Bastien Martel, Brandon Vickerd, Jungle Ling, Ron Eady, Yulia Shtern, Christina Hart, Troy Nickle, Art Aggregate, Wynn Walters, Boris Kramer, John Highley, Roda Medhat, Ingrid Garcia, Susan Collett, Amy McIntosh, Viktor Mitic, Marlene Hilton Moore, Brendan Duggan, Asli Alin, Claire Anderson, Ruben Zellermayer, Floyd Elzinga, David Paolini, Chaka Chikodzi, Brian Kell, and Joon Hee Kim.
