This family-friendly workshop, led by illustrator and author Janine Carrington, is an exploration of beauty, resilience, and resistance through the Trinidad and Tobago “Carnival” that also occurs in February.
Hear about the journey of African slaves to the Caribbean and how they incorporated their African cultures into the existing Lent festivities as a way of coping with hardship while they gained their freedom. Participants create a craft together to celebrate “Carnival,” followed by a reading of Janine’s new book “Em and the Cat.” Activities are geared towards ages 7-8 years. Families of all ages and cultures are welcome!
